homemade flour tortillas

if you’ve never had a fresh and soft warm flour tortillas, now is the time! 😁. these homemade flour tortillas 🫓 are 10 times better than anything you’ll find at a store.

takes a little patience, but they’re easy to make and most people have the ingredients in their pantries right now.

makes 10-15 tortillas

ingredients

4-5 c flour

1 1/2 tsp baking powder

1 1/2 tsp salt

1/3 c oil

1-1 1/4 c  water

1 egg

instructions

mix together flour, salt and baking powder.

make a well in the flour mixture and add the egg. then slowly add the oil and water, using your hands mix the dough.

you want to add just enough water until the dough pulls away from the bowl.**

with flour, lightly dust a clean surface for kneading and stretching it.

kneading and stretching for about 2-4 minutes. half way through, spread the dough out flat and use your hand to spread it with a little oil.

fold it over and go back to kneading, this will help to add air pockets to your dough.

when you’re done kneading, it’s time to shape the dough balls. you’re aiming for about the size of a golf ball.

you’re going to form the dough balls with oiled hands. i’d recommend having a small bowl next to you to work with.

once all the balls are rolled, let dough rest for 20 minutes.

when dough is ready, preheat a griddle or pan to a medium-high heat.

using a rolling pin and roll out your dough as thinly as you can.

when tortillas are formed, place griddle and  for 2-3 minutes on each side. when you see the tortilla puff up, that’s when you know it’s finished.

serve warm and enjoy with tacos, quesadillas or with plain butter right off the griddle 🤤..

** note| dough will be very sticky, to get the off your hands, use a little oil, rub your hands together and it wipes right off.
